Blueprint Law reminds clients about trade mark scams

Blueprint Law is often contacted by clients about correspondence they have received from seemingly legitimate trade mark agencies seeking payment of an invoice for unsolicited services.

Typically, such invoices are for bogus services from unauthorised private enterprises seeking to fool trade mark applicants and owners into thinking that they have received correspondence from an official agency. Often, the invoices refer to registration services or trade mark monitoring services.

We remind all of our clients that, if we are appointed as the address for service for their trade marks, they should only pay invoices they receive from us. In the event that you receive a request for payment related to your trade marks, you should either seek our advice or contact IP Australia before responding to the request. To help trade mark owners identify such organisations, IP Australia maintains a list of providers of unsolicited services - see: http://www.ipaustralia.gov.au/ip-infringement/unsolicited-ip-services/
