Sonya has extensive experience providing specialised commercial advice to the entertainment industry, including in Australia and tours in the Asia-Pacific region. She advises and assist on all aspects of entertainment and live stage show development, production, investing and touring.
Sonya first practiced as a solicitor at Baker & Mackenzie, where she negotiated commercial transactions with major multi-national corporations or their Australian subsidiaries, and later went on to establish her own successful general legal practice in Sydney.
Sonya then joined Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group as Corporate Counsel in Australia, where she was broadly responsible for driving the legal and business aspects of the company’s entertainment projects in the Asia-Pacific region for fifteen years. During this time, Sonya was also Head of Legal Department at international theatre company Global Creatures where she drafted and negotiated commercial and creative agreements for arena spectacular and theatrical productions.
Given her demonstrated expertise in providing legal and business support in staging and touring international entertainment events and stage musicals, representing producers in negotiating contractual and legal requirements and ensuring that they are implemented with local presenting partners, Sonya established a highly regarded independent entertainment law consultancy before joining Blueprint law.
Sonya has developed specialised skills in minimising the risk of presenting large scale productions and events by ensuring protection of the financial interests and creative control of the producer, successfully negotiating complex deals, driving regional and global projects forward, and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
With a passion for the arts and assisting emerging artists and producers, Sonya is also a volunteer lawyer at the Arts Law Centre Australia.
